It is important that patients understand not only what a Phlebologist is, but what makes the practitioners at Vein Doctors Group stand apart from the rest.
Phlebology is the branch of medical science concerned with the anatomy and diseases of the veins. A phlebologist is a doctor who has undergone extensive post-graduate training to diagnose, treat, and prevent venous diseases with expert care. At Vein Doctors Group we treat a wide variety of venous diseases.
This includes:
- Spider veins
- Varicose veins
- Venous ulcers
- Pelvic veins
- Pelvic congestion & varicoceles
- Lipoedema (sub-specialised surgery)
- Lymphoedema
Vein Doctors Group greatly benefits from practitioners accredited by the Australasian College of Phlebology.
The Australasian College of Phlebology (ACP) is the professional body for Phlebologists in Australia, and currently the largest Phlebology society in Australia and New Zealand.
For an individual to have trained within the college, as many of the practitioners in Vein Doctors Group have, means they can expertly help people in need through the necessary multi-disciplinary knowledge, as well as stand proud as internationally distinguished Phlebologists.
Spider veins are caused by venous dysfunction.
Vein dysfunction occurs when the walls of the vein become weaker and retain more blood than normal, causing enlargement along the segment of the vein. As a result of this the valves of the vein begin to dysfunction, creating a backflow of blood which generates visibly distorted veins.
A range of factors can contribute to the development of spider veins.
Some are unavoidable such as genetic factors, but there are some steps you can take to reduce the risk of spider veins developing. This includes maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding standing or sitting for long periods of time and by avoiding wearing tight clothing and high heeled shoes. Compression support stockings are a great way to support healthy venous function.
At Vein Doctors Group we can medically treat spider veins with the use of our contemporary vein treatments.
Micro sclerotherapy is used in our clinics to treat minor spider veins. For more extensive cases we can utilise our innovative Ultra Sound Guided Sclerotherapy.
At Vein Doctors Group we have a range of treatments that can be used to medically treat varicose and spider veins.
Dependant on your individual needs our doctors can utilise microsclerotherapy to treat minor venous dysfunction, ultrasound guided sclerotherapy for more advanced varicose veins or endovenous laser ablation for the most severe cases.
Varicose veins can be a result of a number of genetic and lifestyle factors.
Although a genetic disposition one of the primary influences in the development of abnormal veins, there are also a range of lifestyle factors that can contribute to this condition including:
- Obesity
- Long periods of standing or sitting
- Immobility
- Ageing
- Leg injuries
At Vein Doctors Group we offer a range of highly effective treatments to medically treat varicose veins.
Seeking appropriate medical treatment is one of best ways to actively reduce the discomfort associated with varicose veins.
At Vein Doctors Group we have a range of minimally invasive treatments to reduce the discomfort associated with venous dysfunction. Compression support stockings are also a great way to alleviate the pain associated with varicose veins.
At Vein Doctors Group we offer support services during pregnancy to encourage healthy venous function.
Due to hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy many women experience the development of varicose and spider veins. During your pregnancy consultations our doctors will conduct a completely safe ultrasound scan of your legs to determine the location and extent of abnormal veins. From this Dr Lekich can offer preventative and supportive tools to help manage the symptoms and appearance of both varicose and superficial (spider) veins during pregnancy.
If left untreated, varicose veins can lead to the development of skin deterioration and leg ulcers.
The best way to actively prevent the development of leg ulcers is to treat any varicose veins in their early stages. By treating varicose and spider veins in their early stages you can actively reduce treatment times and maximise the results achieved.
Endovenous laser ablation is one of the contemporary vein treatments we offer at Vein Doctors Group.
Endovenous Laser Ablation is used by our doctors to treat larger veins. This innovative treatment is a great alternative to traditional invasive surgical vein stripping. The great thing about Endovenous Laser Ablation is that there is no need for bed rest, inactivity, hospital admission or general anaesthetic. In comparison with vein stripping and ultrasound guided sclerotherapy this treatment is considered to have a much lower recurrence rate.
While rare, it is important to note the potential side effects associated with sclerotherapy.
Potential side effects associated with sclerotherapy treatment include:
- Brown spots or lines on the skin
- Tender lumps in the treated area
- Matting
- Ulcerations
- Allergic reactions
- Phlebitis
- Migraines
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Intra-arterial injection
At Vein Doctors Group we can supply lightweight and highly effective compression support stockings.
The types of stockings we provide include:
Class 1 Compression Stockings – these are a great choice for tired, heavy aching legs, varicosities without significant oedema and for varicose veins during pregnancy.
Class 2 Compression Stockings – these are utilised to relieve more severe discomfort, support pronounced varicose veins with oedema, help heal ulcers, treat superficial thrombophlebitis, increase the effectiveness of sclerotherapy treatment and to support severe varicose veins during pregnancy.
